ARTIST ROOMS: Don McCullin

26 August – 19 November 2017

Sir Don McCullin CBE, Shell-shocked US Marine, The Battle of Hue 1968, printed 2013. ARTIST ROOMS Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. © Don McCullin.

See over 40 works by one of the world’s greatest photojournalists at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries

Don McCullin (b. 1935) has spent much of his long career working in conflict zones around the globe, including Vietnam, Cambodia and Northern Ireland. His photographs document decades of war, mass emigration, famine and political upheaval, but are underscored by a powerful humanity.

This exhibition brings together images spanning McCullin’s career from ARTIST ROOMS and from Tate. Photographs of the harrowing brutality of modern conflict and its aftermath are displayed alongside social documentary of Britain in the sixties and seventies, portraying the stark industrial north of England and the homelessness of London’s East End. Visitors can also see McCullin’s more recent photographs of the countryside near his home in Somerset.

For more information about the exhibition and events programme, visit the Gracefield Arts Centre website.
