Conservation Talk: Tate Britain Rehang

23 June 2023 at 18.30–21.00
Become a Member

Join Tate Painting and Frame Conservators and Photographers for a fascinating behind the scenes talk on the Tate Britain rehang

For the past year, Tate staff have been busy working on Tate’s rehang project - rehanging all the free collection displays at Tate Britain. This is the first time in over a decade these displays have been refreshed, and curators have carefully selected 780 collection artworks to showcase on the gallery walls.

In this unique glimpse behind the scenes, Tate Painting and Frame Conservators and Photographers will share the exciting stories and discoveries made during this process, such as a double portrait cut in two, with the rediscovery of its long lost ‘other half’. They will also shed light on one of Tate Britain’s most enigmatic paintings, in which not one, but two paintings hide below the surface.

All paintings in this lecture will be on show in the new displays, and you’ll also get the chance to see them in a special private view of the galleries after the talk.

In order of appearance

Alma Jongstra (Paintings Conservator)

Sam Day (Photographer)

Rachel Scott (Paintings Conservator)

Alastair Johnson (Frames Conservator)

Adrian Moore (Frames Conservator)

Alexandra Lawson (Paintings Conservator)

Liza Nathan (Frames Conservator)

Marine Andrieux (Paintings Conservator)

The Entrance for this talk will be through the Clore Entrance located to the right of the gallery with the river behind you. Exit from the event will be through the Manton Foyer on Atterbury Street.
