MacKillop and Blamey have produced the first two publications in a sequence of twelve projects responding to Open Editions' invitation to create a new work within the space of twelve large format printed pages. The reader/viewer is encouraged to approach these approximately 16 square feet of folded paper space with a spirit of adventure. MacKillop's Paper clip (Other Wise 01) and Blamey's Demo yellow (Other Wise 02), convey their ideas as images rather than words, and the artists ask their audience to make their own interpretations, or even use their reading experience as a springboard for thinking about something beyond what is being observed.
A public discussion will be convened by Duncan Wooldridge with MacKillop and Blamey, to explore artists' books, photobooks and other forms of publishing in current art practice.
The event will feature a display of MacKillop and Blamey's publications in Tate's collection, and a site-specific installation of works by both artists within the context of its library setting.
