FLOW 2014

FLOW transforms Tate Modern's East Room in celebration of World Mental Health Day.

Tate Modern collaborates with a range of arts and mental health organisations including Arts Network , CoolTan Arts, Outside In, Portugal Prints, SlamAdArt and Studio Upstairs.

Creative workshops schedule

CoolTan Arts guided Largactyl Shuffle tour

15.00–16.00
Level 4 Structure and Clarity
15 places to be booked on a first come first served basis from 13.30 in the East Room

Largactyl walk leaders take the public on an afternoon tour around the Structure and Clarity display looking at a range of modern and contemporary artworks. The tour includes a selection of artworks around the theme of light, colour and mood, highlighting the artist’s histories and politics.

Outside In – Dreamcatchers

14.00–15.00
Level 4 Energy and Process
10 people at any time, timed tickets will be issued

Be inspired by Pino Pascali’s Trap in the Energy and Process room, and come along between 2–3pm to create a magical dream catcher. Wrap, twist, weave and knot the materials, much like Pascali’s piece, to build your own art work to take home.

Creative workshops in the East Room

13.30–17.00
East Room
Drop-in workshops throughout the afternoon

SlamAdArt: Portraits by the river

SlamAdArt will collect a series of elements connected to water inspired by flow and our proximity to the river Thames. In this eclectic scene we'd like the public to playfully participate with the elements on display. There will be the opportunity to engage in assisted portraits.

SlamAdArt installation has been made possible with support from the Maudsley charity.

Arts Network presents: Malevich, Meets, Matisse

Using the Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs exhibition and the Malevich show as inspirations: Make your own small postcard sized Malevich or Matisse to take home, you can also contribute to our large scale window Matisse and Malevich visible across London.

Making our own version, will deepen our understanding of these two contrasting artists and great fun.

Studio Upstairs: Shadow puppet storytelling

Workshop participants will make shadow puppets with black card and coloured cellophane. These will be used against the light of the large windows to present a show about the flow of the river. A story will be narrated, and illustrated by the shadow puppets/river spirits/birds/fish/objects...

Portugal Prints – Zoetropes and Thaumatropes

Make your own moving image using ancient animating techniques. Supported by members of Portugal Prints, you will design and draw your picture and watch it come to life.

Outside In: showcasing artwork

Outside In artist Mary Courtney presents her artist book Dinner.

CoolTan Arts: showcasing artwork

CoolTan artist Fiona presents her artwork.
