This evening will be a celebration of Dr Amy Hale's spellbinding new Tate Publishing book, Magic: Beyond the Supernatural in Contemporary Art.
Drawing from the book’s global survey of 45 groundbreaking artists, this event uncovers how artists invoke ancestral knowledge, experiment with altered states and rewrite the rules of modern art history.
Whether you are an art lover, a student of the occult or simply curious about the boundaries of human creativity, this evening promises to transform how you view contemporary art.
The evening will conclude with a Q&A session with both speakers, followed by a book signing with Amy.
Dr Amy Hale
Dr Amy Hale is an Atlanta-based writer, curator, and critic, ethnographer and folklorist, speaking and writing about esoteric history, magic, art, culture, women and Cornwall. She writes and speaks on topics as diverse as psychogeography, Pagan religious tourism, colour theory, and politics in modern Paganism.
Jamie Sutcliffe
Jamie Sutcliffe is a writer, curator, lecturer, and co-director of Strange Attractor Press. His work explores artistic encounters with science fiction, fabulation, the politics of gaming, animation, haunted media, and the persistence of myth.
All Tate Modern entrances are step-free. You can enter via the Turbine Hall and into the Natalie Bell Building on Holland Street, or into the Blavatnik Building on Sumner street. There are lifts to every floor of the Blavatnik and Natalie Bell buildings. Alternatively you can take the stairs.
- Fully accessible toilets are located on every floor on the concourses.
- A quiet room is available to use in the Natalie Bell Building on Level 4.
- Ear defenders can be borrowed from the Ticket desks.
