NANU- Sámi Arts International: Takeover

16 October 2025 at 19.30–23.00

RIDDU RiĐĐU Ørjan Marakatt Bertelsen

Join us for a takeover by the NANU-Sámi Arts International, presenting an evening of music and performance from across Sápmi

This will be a special one-off night where Sámi artists Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen, Marie Boine and Niilas bring innovative sounds and music making to The Corner. Together, they will offer audiences a rare and resonant glimpse into the evolving future of Sámi music. It’s a unique chance to experience sounds and performances that are rarely staged in the UK.

Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen is a Sámi musician, joik singer and land defender. As a former county leader of Natur og Ungdom and key voice in the Nussir copper mine protests, she weaves together music and activism, advocating for Sámi rights and environmental justice.

Mari Boine is a renowned Sámi singer and songwriter from Norway. Blending joik with jazz and rock, she gives voice to Sámi identity and Indigenous power. Her acclaimed album Gula Gula (1989) brought global recognition, making her a powerful symbol of cultural pride and renewal.

Niilas is a Sámi composer and electronic music artist. He works at the intersection of club music, sound art, and performance, creating experimental beats and immersive visuals which draw on his Sámi cultural heritage.

The NANU-Sámi Arts International unites two leading forces in Sámi culture:

Dáiddadállu, a Sámi artist network based in Guovdageaidnu / Kautokeino

Riddu Riđđu Festivála, the internationally acclaimed Indigenous music and culture festival held annually in Olmmáivággi/Manndalen.

Together, they amplify Sámi artists on the global stage, offering audiences unforgettable encounters with the evolving future of Indigenous creativity.
