Join us for a panel discussion about groundbreaking covers with four of the sharpest minds in the industry

Discover the secrets behind the creative process with Christoph Amend (ZEITmagazin), Carol Montpart (The Plant) and Matt Phare (Stylist). The panel is chaired by Ian Birch author of Uncovered: Revolutionary Magazine Covers. Uncovered tells the inside stories in the words of the magazine world’s most influential figures.

This talk will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing.

Biographies

Carol Montpart

Carol Montpart is a creative director based in London working across the fields of art, culture and fashion. Versatile and ever-evolving, Carol’s work is deeply rooted in strong conceptual thinking. She approaches each brief with sensitivity and applies this in her collaborations with artists, photographers and writers. Carol co-founded the publication The Plant Magazine and continues to lead as co-creative director.

Christoph Amend

Christoph Amend is the editor-in-chief of ZEITmagazin and publisher of ZEIT's art magazine Weltkunst. ZEITmagazin's international issue, a bi-annual in English, was launched in 2013. In 2016 he launched ZEITmagazin MANN, a stand-alone men’s magazine for the German market. Amend is the author of ZEITmagazin‘s daily newsletter Was für ein Tag and the co-host of ZEIT‘s interview podcast Alles Gesagt.

Ian Birch

Ian Birch started his career at Time Out in the 70s and most recently was editorial director at Hearst on both sides of the Atlantic, overseeing brands such as Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, Elle and Good Housekeeping. Ian won the Mark Boxer Award for lifetime achievement at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards.

Matt Phare

Matt Phare is creative director and a co-founder of The Stylist Group, pioneers of the ‘freemium’ publishing model. Matt created the iconic and much-imitated look and feel of the first free men’s general interest weekly, ShortList, which went on to win many awards and change the UK media landscape. He then launched Stylist, now one of the biggest women’s media channels in Britain, winning over 100 media awards. Matt started out interning at Smash Hits and loves magazines as much now as he did then.
