An exciting opportunity to hear visual activist and artist Zanele Muholi in discussion with artist and filmmaker Topher Campbell

This special event celebrates the return of our mid-career survey exhibition of Zanele Muholi and looks ahead to Topher Campbell's forthcoming installation at Tate Modern, due to open in September.

The conversation will be chaired by Carine Harmand, the John Ellerman Foundation Curator at Tate Liverpool.

Zanele Muholi

Zanele Muholi is a South African artist and visual activist working in photography, video, sculpture and painting. From the early 2000s, Muholi has documented and celebrated the lives of South Africa’s Black lesbian, gay, trans, queer and intersex communities. Muholi’s self-proclaimed mission is "to re-write a Black queer and trans visual history of South Africa for the world to know of our resistance and existence at the height of hate crimes in South Africa and beyond."

Topher Campbell

Topher Campbell is a filmmaker, artist and writer who has created a range of works in broadcasting, film, theatre, television and performance. His works focus on issues of sexuality, masculinity, and the city, particularly in relation to race, human rights and climate change. Campbell is co-founder of the rukus! Archive, the largest archive in Europe dedicated to UK Black LGBTQIA+ histories and culture.

Carine Harmand

Carine Harmand is the John Ellerman Foundation Curator at Tate Liverpool. Harmand is a trustee of Mimosa House, London, a space dedicated to platforming women and queer artists and focusing on the fluidity of identity.
