- The notebook contains observations and ideas for works based on visits to various sites around the country including Gravesend, Wandsworth, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Grimsby, and Battersea. Many of the entries are dated. There are also Clough's notes on her paintings, many of them identified by name, including ideas about composition, colours and alterations.
Enclosed between the last page and the back cover are notes entitled 'scenes of a journey' containing brief descriptions of a trip, possibly to Germany as one entry is entitled 'Saar smoke'. - Format
