Good Friday

Dear Pepi,

Thank you very much for your kind card, which I wanted to reply to straight away. Dear God, what has become of me? I’m scarcely capable of writing a letter; day and night I torment myself and I don’t know how I shall ever write all the letters I owe. Well, no offence intended; I shall do the best I can. Many thanks for trying to find me a printing press, which is no mean feat. I’ve looked in London. The only thing one can get is a shoddy ‘student’ press, which is far too light, and it would take two to three months to get one. In the meanwhile I’ve been hand printing under the weight of my visage, and I’m really rather good at it. I’ve also done a couple of new paintings (nothing large and nothing important). I haven’t started reworking the portraits yet for fear of spoiling them, but I shall when I feel sufficiently present and unencumbered.

I have here about six colour photos, which you are more than welcome to use. The Molton Gallery also have some, God knows where, in their files.

I’ve seen Chatin once, at his place. He was suffering from the side effects of a vaccination. He took some of the paintings to Spain with him. Va bene! There’s also a handsome photo in ‘Apollo’ (Scenes of Childhood) and several black-and-white pictures. At the moment I don’t have anyone who can do colour photos at a remotely reasonable price.

Here it's dog cold, rainy and dark as well.

Lots of love to you and your family at Easter.

Sincerely,

Erich
