- Letter from Vanessa Bell, 46 Gordon Square, Bloomsbury, London, to Duncan Grant, announcing the lease of Charleston, East Sussex, from Mr Stacey. Letter contains a long verbal description and two-page 'map' of the farmhouse and grounds. Bell describes lunch with landlord's family, and deplores wartime jingoism of Mrs Stacey. Letter also mentions Cutts, a Romany cart driver; Roger Fry; Ethel Grant; John Maynard Keynes; Lytton Strachey; and John Tressider Sheppard.
