Description

Mixed media including charcoal, graphite, ink, pastel and brush and ink on paper, 342 × 232 mm

Sketchbook containing sketches in mixed media including charcoal, graphite, pastel, ink and brush with ink. It includes sketches of still lifes, sketches of abstracted shapes ressembling landscapes, sketches of animals including pigs and cows, sketches of figures, sometimes interacting together, often set within frames, sketches of figures wearing headpieces or headscarfs and studies of a flower. It also includes some studies of Marie-Louise von Motesiczky's self-portrait, probably preparotory for her painting 'Self-portrait in Green', 1942. As well as a draft letter or a journal entry in Marie-Louise's hand discussing the relationship between a mentor and a pupil.
