Description
Graphite, crayon, pastel, chalk, and ink on paper, 67 pages plus covers, 13 pages are missing, 217 × 140 mm
Most of the drawings in this sketchbook date from 1961-1962 and include a number of early studies for the cover of Douglas Cooper's monograph 'The Works of Graham Sutherland' and for various pictures of that period. However, Sutherland appears to have returned to the sketchbook in 1965 and added several studies for 'Form on a Terrace' of that year; then possibly again in 1967, and added drawings for 'Braziers' 1967 and 'Study for Form on a Terrace' 1967-1968. Nearly half the pages are blank.
