Catalogue entry

Like the scene on folio 32 verso opposite (D17813), this one of various effectively unidentifiable views of riverside trees in this sketchbook, but they may well be beside a Thames backwater; for other Thames views, see under folio 2 recto (D17775). It is unclear whether the two-arched bridge at the bottom right was part of the scene or, perhaps more likely, recorded separately nearby.
Technical notes:
A short tear to the outer edge has been repaired. John Ruskin’s customary red ink page number beside the later stamp is not readily apparent here, although those on other leaves of this sketchbook are generally very faint.
