Catalogue entry

Drawn with the book inverted, this sketch shows the stone bridge that leads to the gatehouse of Roslin Castle at the east with its distinctive two level arches. Above the bridge to the right are the ruins of the castle. Turner first sketched the castle and bridge in 1801 (Dunbar sketchbook, Tate D02664; Turner Bequest LIV 41a).
