This Show and Share will look at work by Black British artists held by Tate Library and Archive as part of Black History Month 2022

October is Black History Month, an event that has been celebrated nationally for more than 30 years. The aim of the month is to highlight and celebrate the achievements and contributions that people with African and Caribbean heritage have made to the UK over many generations.

The theme for this year’s Black History Month in 2022 is Time for Change: Action Not Words. This Show and Share will look at work by Black British artists held by Tate Library and Archive as part of Black History Month 2022.

The display will showcase highlights of the life and work of key Black British artists, including Vanley Burke, Eddie Chambers, Lubaina Himid, Claudette Johnson, Rita Keegan, Keith Piper, Donald Rodney, Marlene Smith, Maud Sulter and Aubrey Williams. All the items that will be on display are part of Tate Library and Archive extensive collections.

Selected by Tate Library and Archive staff.

The Show and Share programme invites visitors to explore highlights from the Library and Archive collections. Previous highlights have included letters, sketchbooks, artists’ books, zines, catalogues, ephemera, photographs, and other special collections.

Each ‘pop-up’ display is curated to a specific theme or collection and includes a guided talk from the Library and Archive team with occasional guest talks and performances. Show and Share events provide a unique viewing and handling experience highlighting art and ideas found in the Library and Archive collections.
