Changing Landscapes: Artist-led cycling tour provides an opportunity to explore the work of three pioneering landscape painters whose work spans over 200 years, revealing their shared fascination with light, atmosphere and abstraction. This day course will examine the impact of landscape painting on current artistic practice.
Taking inspiration from the Turner Monet Twombly: Later Paintings exhibition, Peak District artist Susan McCall will lead a morning’s cycle tour through south Liverpool’s parks and green spaces, exploring a sense of place, textures and light, movement through landscape, and the dynamics between changing weather and solid forms. During the morning cycle tour periodic stops will be made to make preparatory drawings and paint studies. These will be used back in the studio in the afternoon to produce a finished artwork.
Artistic techniques to be explored include the practice of painting outside, the materiality of paint, gesture and abstraction. Using drawing and painting to examine the landscape, how do we interpret what we see and feel?
The course is introductory and participative, taught with a mix of discussion and practical art-making activities. Through one to one tutoring, group discussion and practical art-making, the relaxed atmosphere allows participants to develop their own artistic responses through experimentation.
No previous experience necessary.
