Join us for the premiere of Bird Sheet Music – A Movement In Three Parts, a collaborative musical composition that curiously captures avian activity, creating a piece of music celebrating our feathered friends.

To create this unique piece of music environment artist Kerry Morrison placed blank music score on the ground on a grand scale, underneath where birds roost and feed, in order to capture their daily business. Composer Jon Hering then transcribed each bird dropping on the score into a musical note, creating an entire composition. Sound artist Helmut Lemke also recorded birdsong, together with ambient nature and city sounds which were then added to the piece. The whole composition will now be performed by the a.P.A.t.T. Orchestra in this special performance.

Performances will take place during the afternoon in the foyer, at 14.30, 15.30 and 16.30. Each performance will last approximately twenty-minutes.

Visit our Art Dock space from 14:00 – 17:00 and see the original scores used to create the performance, and listen to an extended sound installation created by Helmut Lemke.

Bird Sheet Music – A Movement in Three Parts is one of four public art interventions that took place in parks and gardens across the city in the summer and autumn of 2012 as part of Our Liverpool Landscape: From Turner to Today.  The project, led by Tate Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool City Parks and Green Spaces Department and Liverpool Primary Care Trust, aimed to re-connect local people with their parks and green spaces.
