Join us for this free lecture-demonstration where Charmatz will playfully deconstruct 10000 Gestures before its evening presentation

As Charmatz explains his decisions as the choreographer, dancers will present selected pieces from 10000 Gestures.

‘We will also present a "lecture-demonstration", the old-fashioned way. When I was little, it was not uncommon for dance companies to lend themselves to this "game" of unfolding in front of the audience the composition of the play that would be played in the evening. It is less a public rehearsal than a kind of "textual explanation" in which everyone works. The dancers peel their score. The choreographer looks for words to illuminate his choices. And the audience tries to enter the process of composing a vast collective enterprise ...’

This event is part of a special weekend programme developed for Tate in support of the presentation of Boris Charmatz’s recent work.

Presented by Tate Modern and Sadler's Wells.
