For one night only, Tate Modern opens its doors for late-night access until 1am!

On Friday 31st March, following our usual Tate Modern Late programming, we’re hosting a one-off Tate Modern Late afterparty! Join us for music, drinks, poetry, conversation and connection in a rare opportunity to experience a special late-night Tate takeover from 10pm – 1am.

This extra special event, Extending Sovereignty, brings together artists, writers and musicians to celebrate Cecilia Vicuña’s Hyundai Commission: Brain Forest Quipu in the iconic Turbine Hall and explore the exhibition A Year in Art: Australia 1992.

Music and Poetry

Location: Turbine Hall, Level 0

Immerse yourself in Vicuña’s radical textile work alongside music and poetry after dark. Catch DJ sets programmed by Movimientos along with readings and spoken word centring climate justice and indigenous voices from Latin America.

22.00–22.20 DJ Set: Gypsy Box

22.20–22.30 Poetry: Leo Boix

22.30–22.50 DJ Set: Gypsy Box

22.50–23.00 Poetry: Yara Rodrigues Fowler

23.00–23.50 DJ Set: DJ Raff

23.50–00.00 Poetry: Felipe Viveros

00.00–00.35 DJ Set: Amancai

00.35–00.45 Poetry: Angela Camacho

A Year in Art: Australia 1992 in Conversation

Location: Natalie Bell Building, Level 3

This exhibition brings together works which respond to debates around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights in Australia. Hear from three exhibition artists live streaming from Australia, hosted in person by one of the exhibition’s curators, Tamsin Hong.

22.30–23.00 Tracey Moffatt

23.30–00.00 Yhonnie Scarce

00.15–00.45 D Harding

This event is organised with Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational in partnership with Hyundai Motor

Pop-Up Bars

Location: Turbine Hall

Find craft beers, cocktails and soft drinks in the Turbine Hall on Level 0.

All Tate Modern entrances are step-free. You can enter via the river entrance.

There are lifts to every floor of the Natalie Bell buildings. Alternatively you can take the stairs or escalators.

Fully accessible toilets are located on every floor on the concourses.

Extending Sovereignty will feel different to a regular day at the gallery. Here’s what to expect:

  • Our security team will be checking bags when you arrive
  • There will be bars serving alcohol in the Turbine Hall Level 0
    • For purchasing alcohol you may be asked to show ID to prove you are over 18
  • Gallery spaces and the Turbine Hall will be busier than usual
  • There will be DJ sets in the Turbine Hall Level 0 with amplified sound
  • Ear defenders can be borrowed, ask Tate staff if you need assistance

To help plan your visit to Tate Modern, have a look at our visual story. It includes photographs and information about what you can expect from a visit to the gallery.
