Tate Modern and KOL’s Santiago Lastra reveal KOL at Tate: a Frida Kahlo-inspired dinner with a curated walkthrough of the exhibition

Created as the centrepiece in Tate Modern’s summer collaboration with chef Santiago, this bespoke event will pair a five-course tasting menu, served by Santiago and his team at Tate Modern’s skyline restaurant with a curated after-hours walkthrough of the exhibition, Frida: The Making of an Icon.

Limited to a small number of guests, the evening brings together Mexican art, culture and gastronomy, with Santiago’s reinterpretation of Mexican cuisine that pays homage to Frida Kahlo’s life and legacy.

Guests will be welcomed with a KOL Margarita, before a selection of small plates - delicate broth, short rib and truffle quesadilla, scallop and tomato ceviche, caviar and langoustine taco - are paired with  KOL’s La Cigala cocktail - a mix of hibiscus, verjus, Speyside scotch and mezcal.

The main course brings dry-aged duck served with koji mole - one of Mexico’s most iconic dishes - a rich, layered sauce traditionally associated with celebration and regional identity and paired with a glass of Mezcal.

The evening closes with Viva la Vida, a vibrant tribute to Frida’s final painting that celebrates her enduring message of vitality, resilience and joy in a refreshing multi-layered ice cream that evokes the sensation of watermelon.

Wines will feature KOL classics and bottles drawn from Tate’s renowned cellars.
