Tate Modern is delighted to announce a new culinary collaboration with internationally acclaimed London-based chef Santiago Lastra, founder of the Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant KOL, who has created an exclusive menu inspired by Tate Modern’s major exhibition Frida Kahlo: The Making of an Icon.
Available for a limited time from 25 June to 31 August, the menu will be served daily at lunchtime and on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Tate Modern Restaurant, offering visitors a distinctive opportunity to experience the exhibition through both art and food.
About the menu
Celebrated for his contemporary interpretation of Mexican cuisine and deep respect for heritage, Santiago Lastra has developed this menu in direct response to the life, work and enduring cultural legacy of Frida Kahlo.
Born in the same city as Kahlo, Lastra has long felt a personal connection to the artist and her story. Central to Frida Kahlo: The Making of an Icon is the way Kahlo transformed personal experience into a powerful artistic language. This idea has been a guiding inspiration for Lastra as he translates memory, place and emotion into flavour. Drawing on the bold flavours, ingredients and culture of Mexico — reimagined using British produce — the dishes explore themes of identity, resilience and place, ideas that sit at the heart of Kahlo’s practice.
