Celebrated for his contemporary interpretation of Mexican cuisine and deep respect for heritage, Santiago Lastra has developed this menu in direct response to the life, work and enduring cultural legacy of Frida Kahlo.

Born in the same city as Kahlo, Lastra has long felt a personal connection to the artist and her story. Central to Frida Kahlo: The Making of an Icon is the way Kahlo transformed personal experience into a powerful artistic language. This idea has been a guiding inspiration for Lastra as he translates memory, place and emotion into flavour. Drawing on the bold flavours, ingredients and culture of Mexico — reimagined using British produce — the dishes explore themes of identity, resilience and place, ideas that sit at the heart of Kahlo’s practice.

“Frida Kahlo has always been deeply important to me, - not only as an artist, but as someone who represents the spirit, strength and complexity of Mexican culture. Being born in the same city as Frida makes this collaboration especially meaningful to me in London. This menu is my way of honouring her legacy, translating the emotions, colours and stories found in her work onto the plate.” - Santiago Lastra
