What does making look like in the age of digital production?

Thursday 12 October – Sunday 15 October 12.00–18.00

Art:Work explores the power and politics of making in the age of digital labour. Drop in and take part in a creative interdisciplinary lab where artists, technologists, designers and musicians question how and by whom (or what), art and ideas are being generated in the digital age.

Join artist Sam Meech who will help you transform your working week into a knitting pattern, while the Tactical Technology Collective will give you a data detox and Compiler will mix you an encrypted cocktail!

Your family and friends can take part in hands-on tinkering, making and exploring how ‘smart stuff’ can enhance – and intrude on - our lives. And experience the sights and sounds of a shared machine shop in a Journal of Peer Production display by Kat Braybrooke and Vasilis Moschas.

Sat 14 October
Music box workshop 15.00–16.30 (20 places)
Performance 17.00–18.00

On Saturday drop into a music box workshop and then experience the culmination of this lab in an audio-visual performance remixed from the data trails we produce, featuring Hannah Peel and Gary Stewart.

Sun 15 October
Panel Discussion 15.00–17.00

On Sunday join us for a discussion on post-human production exploring the value of collective creativity, open source, bias in machine learning and ‘big data’. How can we interrupt these processes? Featuring Ramon Amaro, Irini Papadimitriou, Rachel Rayns, Red Hat and Tactical Tech.

Art:Work is co-curated by the Digital Learning team: Rebecca Sinker, Luca Damiani and Lou Macnamara.
