Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery Exhibition

ARTIST ROOMS Alex Katz

30 March – 16 June 2019

Alex Katz, West Window 1979. ARTIST ROOMS Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. © Alex Katz.

An exhibition of work by influential American artist Alex Katz

With their bright and bold palette, Alex Katz’s paintings present a modern American take on portraiture, landscape and still life. His immediately recognisable style draws on American and European painting traditions and is influenced by the work of Matisse and Monet whilst the crisp stylised surfaces of his paintings have an affinity with pop art.

The exhibition at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery presents the breadth of Katz’ practice. The works included are drawn from the ARTIST ROOMS collection and follow a major display of Katz’ landscape paintings at Tate Liverpool.

The ARTIST ROOMS programme of exhibitions with partner museums and galleries enables access to modern and contemporary art of international significance in rural areas, small towns and major cities throughout the UK.

Exhibitions are happening throughout 2019 and into 2020 in venues large and small, the length and breadth of the country, from Dundee to The Isle of Wight.

Works from the ARTIST ROOMS collection can also be seen at Tate sites in London, Liverpool and St Ives as well as at National Galleries of Scotland sites in Edinburgh.
