Display caption

This etching was based on a sketch for an installation that Bennett created in 1992, titled Self Portrait (Ancestor Figures). On the wall are a mix of small abstract watercolour paintings and photographs of the artist’s family members, who he identifies as Aboriginal and of Scottish and English ancestry. On the floor, polished lead encased river stones are placed over a painted grid. The inscription reads: ‘River stones – their forms are created by the action of flowing water – the form is a result of the flow over time – created by + in flux.’
