Miss Kendon has written (22 May 1958): ‘This is one of the very few interiors by Hennell and is of Rathcoursey House, Middleton, Co. Cork (Miss Hennell's information). Tom stayed at Rathcoursey frequently from, I should say 1929–42.’
Vincent Lines (letter of 15 February 1958) added that: ‘This work dates between 1930–32. It is certainly an earlier work than the others I have seen in the Gallery.’
