Catalogue entry

As Finberg slightly tentatively suggested, the view is south-east along the Adriatic coast towards Ancona;1 compare folio 67 recto (D14609; Turner Bequest CLXXVI 63), and the hills in the background of the folio 68 verso opposite (D14612; CLXXVI 64a).
For Cecilia Powell’s comments on the relatively uneventful phase of Turner’s journey between leaving Rimini and reaching Ancona itself (folios 61 recto–69 recto; D14599–D14613; Turner Bequest CLXXVI 57–65), see under D14599.2
