Inspired by When Words Fall Silent, Cinema Speaks by Zineb Sedira, families are invited to discover the magic of film through cinema inspired sensory play, hands-on creative activities and, of course, a film or two along the way. Suitable for families of all ages.

Watch a range of children’s short films and animations from around Europe, before discovering hands-on sensory play and creative activities inspired by film-making, including shadow play, dens and projections.

Level 1

Bring memories alive through making and conversation, tell a story together using Storyboards. Then stage and create short films using backdrops and props from Tate’s collection.

Watch a series of seasonal short films for children, including how to make a pumpkin inspired by Kusama as well as a charming animation about Mildred, the Gallery Cat.
Story Space

Explore the storytelling of film through books, dress-up, making and small world play. Create a thaumatrope (an optical toy that gives the illusion of movement) in our making area.
Tate Draw
Lower Ground, next to the Djanogly Café

Make a digital drawing of a character or setting that you would like to see in a film, and display it for everyone to see!
Devised by Tate Britain’s Early Years and Families’ team with Small World Cinema, Tate Kids and Anita Safowaa.
Tate Britain's step-free entrance is on Atterbury Street. It has automatic sliding doors and there is a ramp down to the entrance with central handrails.
- Accessible, standard and Changing Places toilets are located on the Lower floor.
- Ear defenders can be borrowed from the ticket desk on the Lower floor.
