The Challenge

Art was a door that hadn't been opened to me before. I grew up in a very working-class community and had no idea about art school. Sonia Boyce

Ask your students to come up with ideas for places they can’t imagine inhabiting. What doors would they like opened to them? Whether a dream job, a new experience, or going to the moon, encourage their imagination and ambition.

Then, invite students to share their possible futures with the class This could be through conversation in pairs or small groups, representing themselves through drawing or painting, or even acting it out!

A group of young people in pink high-vis vests write onto cardboard structures. On the cardboard is the question, ‘How can art change the world’?
