Ancestral Knowledges: My Grandmother Is My School focused on ancestral relations and forms of knowledge that have been transmitted across generations – ways of knowing that have persisted despite attempts to discredit or destroy them. Over three days of talks, performances, screenings, workshops and shared meals, participants reflected on experiences across communities, land and histories. Rooted in exchange, the programme offered space to imagine collectively how we might challenge cultural, spiritual and ecological erasure. The videos presented here have been selected to accompany Mother Lines, a special issue of Tate Papers that explores transgenerational connections and ancestral knowledge in art. They include contributions by Mirna Bamieh, M’barek Bouhchichi, Zayaan Kahn, Suzanne Kite, Mataaho Collective and Charmaine Watkiss.
