BBZ x Tate

Join BBZ collective for an exploration of the duality of the queer, trans and non-binary black identity in the UK

A multi-media, multi-sensory exhibition spotlighting the production of QTIPOC (queer, transgender and intersex people of colour) communities. Explore how DIY culture, cloud communities and nightlife have created space for queer communities to survive, connect and produce. This four day project features installations, discussions and a special late night takeover.

Join intimate and honest discussions about queer narratives and trans identity. Watch BBZ TV, a video essay on the black queer condition. Drop in to On Desire to see a special screening of short films by black queer womxn. Respond to John Akomfrah’s The Unfinished Conversation 2012 inside The Cotch, a safe space for QTIPOC dedicated to the exchange of anonymous and frank letters and messages.

Library & Co-Working Space

Are you a freelancer, student or young creative? Looking to share ideas and bounce ideas off others?

Drop in into BBZ library & co-working space throughout the week to work and connect with others. With Wi-Fi, tables, sofas, plugs and tea, work alongside BBZ collective members and Tate Learning Curators. Browse zines and literature dedicated to QTIPOC empowerment and movements all over the world. Drop in to a show and tell & zine exchange to share ideas work with others.

BBZ BLK BK

Are you or someone you know a QTIPOC artist or creative? Contribute to BBZ BLK BK, a new online directory of QTIPOC artists launched at BBZ x Tate. Bring your suggestions to Tate Exchange during the project or submit directly to the BBZ BLK BK site.

TENDERHEADED

TENDERHEADED presents the experience of queer communities within barbers and hair salons through intimate storytelling. Hear the voices of multiple queer black folk earnestly discussing what it is to be black queer and British, and share your response. A limited number of haircuts will be available by appointment on Saturday 16 December.

BBZ DJs

Resident sound gyal Shy One will be on the decks providing sounds for the BBZ late on Saturday night alongside AMZ & RABZ

BBZ is a collective of womxn of colour spotlighting some of the world's emerging queer black artists in immersive environments.
