For one night only, the team from The Newt in Somerset are coming to London. Taking over Tate Modern Restaurant Gelf Alderson, Head of Food at The Newt and formerly of River Cottage, joins Tate's Head Chef Tommy Boland for a banquet-style feast built entirely around what the Somerset land is giving right now. Expect generous sharing plates paired with cyder from The Newt's own orchards. A truly rare chance to experience The Newt’s Somerset larder in London.
This evening offers a wonderful early opportunity to explore the world of fine cider through one of our favourite producers ahead of our annual London Cider Salon in May, brought to Tate for the fourth year by the Fine Cider Company.
From The Newt
At The Newt our cooking begins in the soil. Guided by the rhythms of the seasons on our Somerset estate, we work with produce grown, reared and crafted on our land. For this special evening at the Tate Modern we’ll showcase the abundance of the estate – from crisp spring cabbages to fragrant wild garlic, grown and foraged from our estate, to buffalo-milk cheeses made with milk from our own herd. The menu will also feature our heritage British White beef, a rare, native breed, raised slowly on our lush pasture.
Each dish has been thoughtfully paired with a complementary cyder from The Newt, celebrating the craft, character and complexity of traditional Somerset cider making. With four cyders throughout the evening, you can expect to taste The Newt’s award-winning Ice Cyder, along with their flagship Wyvern Wing: a blissfully fresh and elegant modern cyder inspired by lime-fresh Rieslings and perfumed Pinot Gris.
